Not Yeti Friday - Giacometti's Standing Man

I'm in D.C. this week for work (hence the lack of updates), and in my visit to the Hirshhorn Museum, saw this sculpture.

Is it a yeti?

Nope. It's "Standing Man" by Alberto Giacometti. In 1929-1930 when it was created, no one would have associated it with "yeti", I don't think. Now, many modern viewers are going to make that leap.

Not Yeti Friday - Knobby the Blond Bigfoot

In case you hadn't heard... in the mountains of North Carolina, there has been a recent sighting of a whistling, 10 foot tall ape-like hominid possessing six fingers and beautiful, yellowish hair & beard.

The legend of "Knobby" has been in the area since the 1970s (though he was never yellow).

Loren Coleman asked a number of artists and cartoonists to try to depict Knobby the Blond Bigfoot.

Be sure to check out his post with the depictions!

Here's a preview to entice you to check it out:

Artist: Ted Bastien

The only other example I know of a yellow hairy hominid is this yeti character from a Spanish comic called 'King Egg'.

OOhh, indeedily indeedeed.

RISK has yetis

RISK: Factions is a video game for Xbox Live Arcade.

The different factions are: Humans, Cats, Robots, Zombies, and Yeti.

The inclusion of the yeti among such pop-culture giants truly highlights its popularity. Yeti has made it. He is here to stay and will beat you at RISK.

Here is what this newest depiction of yeti looks like:

Here is the trailer:

Note that he is a Buddhist monk gone bad.

It's an interesting twist because traditionally, yeti is an evil monster gone good. You think he's going to maul you, but he's actually a kind and gentle friend.

This is a complete reversal.

Not Yeti Friday - The Octo-Yeti

What if the yeti and the octopus monster didn't fight it out to the death as we all expect but had a baby together?

The Octo-Yeti by Holly Stanway

Although a heavenly light shines down in blessing upon the Octo-Yeti, it is clear pure-blood octopus monsters (visible in the background lurking in the shadows) are none too happy with the unholy mutant.

Hang in there, Octo-Yeti! You are truly the abomination of abominations...

(I mean that in a good way.)
