[Were-Yeti Week] Not Yeti Friday - A Shrewdness of Simianthropes

Did you know? A group of apes is called a Shrewdness. I'm going to go ahead and assume a group of were-apes is called that too.

The little-known Howler from Marvel Comics is my favorite "Not Yeti" simianthrope...

But there are others...

In the fighting game Bloody Roar, the playable character Greg can transform into a white gorilla.

The comic Savage, which might be being made into a live-action TV show or film, features a young protagonist who can turn into a Bigfoot-like beast to fight werewolves:

And perhaps most famously, in the manga & cartoon Dragon Ball, the Saiyans are a race of people that can morph into tailed ape creatures.

And sometimes they can turn into a Golden Great Ape:

[Were-Yeti Week] Throwback: Futurama

Yetis have appeared a few times on Futurama.  I blogged about 'em here and here.  It was # 4 on the Top 10 Outer Space Yeti.

Here's a throwback... some more pics of the Futurama yeti.

In one of the episodes the character Farnsworth catches Yetiism:

"Yetiism is a disease caused by the Yeti pineal gland, which contains a concentrated form of the Yeti neurotoxin. According to Zoidberg: "It mimics the symptoms of hypermalaria exactly. Except for the part where, instead of dying, you turn into a Yeti!" Farnsworth had Yetiism from 2927 until 3011."

[Were-Yeti Week] Throwback: Marvel's Wendigo

O Wendigo...

An honorary yeti in my book, I've blogged about him numerously (examples here here here and here).

Marvel introduced this monster in 1973, having him fight Hulk.  One of his creators recalled, "I knew about the legend of the Wendigo, and thought, between his strength and his sad story, that he sounded like a good Hulk opponent."

I'm not entirely sure why, but it was decided their version of the legend would look exactly like a yeti, but with a tail. Sometimes he has horns like a yeti, too.

Like the folklore it's based on, there's a Canadian cannibal curse (yup you have to be in Canada) that turns you into a were-yeti basically.

Here are some examples of a person in mid-transformation:

And here are some other pretty pictures of Wendy I found as well. Note the variety. The only thing they all have in common is that they could all be yetis.

Wolverine's always fighting him cuz he's Canadian
